The Problem
  • Education in the 21st Century has a major problem.
  • Students are expected to complete high school with a high degree of literacy in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
  • In 2017, only 10 percent of Louisiana graduates met the ACT STEM College Readiness Benchmark. (The Condition of College & Career Readiness 2017

  • Unfortunately, there are simply not enough qualified teachers to address the needs of STEM education in a world that is increasingly demanding of STEM literacy. 
Solution: UTeachTech
  • UTeachTech is based on the UTeach program originally developed at the University of Texas at Austin as a solution to the STEM teacher shortage.  
  • UTeachTech changes the teacher preparation model. It affords students greater flexibility by providing them the opportunity to pursue a degree in the STEM field of their choice while adding a rigorous teaching-preparation component. At the conclusion of their studies, students have a degree that not only prepares them for industry or graduate-level education, but also provides them with the option of teaching. 
  •  UTeachTech is a long-term solution to the problem of the lack of STEM literacy and shortage of STEM educators through the implementation of a rigorous and innovative teacher-preparation model.
