An exploration of the teaching profession and the theory and practice of inquiry-based science and math instruction, with four hours of field work in an elementary school setting.

A continuation of research-based lesson plan development and implementation, with five hours of fieldwork in a middle school setting.
UTCH 301: Knowing and Learning - Honors credit available. 3 Credit Hours. Survey of cognitive learning theories specifically related to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) content.

HIST 380: Perspectives on Science and Mathematics – No prerequisite, honors credit available, and meets GER history requirement. 3 Credit Hours. Examines how scientists and mathematicians have historically developed innovative solutions to outstanding problems, using pedagogy appropriate to future science and mathematics teachers.

MATH 302: Introduction to Geometry and Mathematical Fundamentals (for Math Majors seeking certification in Secondary Math only – not required for minor in UTeachTech ) 3 Credit Hours. Prerequisite MATH 242. Multi-topic seminar focused on NCTM content knowledge standards in algebra, geometry and trigonometry including functions and notations, plane geometry topics.

EDCI 434: Diverse Learners – required for teacher certification in Louisiana
EDCI 416C: Apprentice Teaching/Clinical Residency
To apply to the Teaching Program: (1) Submit completed Teaching Program Application with supporting documentation. You must have an ACT of 22 or Praxis Core Passing Scores to apply to the teaching program. See the application for all requirements. Once you are admitted to the teaching program, you can register for EDCI 100, a 0-credit course that signifies you are in the teaching program and can take upper-level EDCI courses.
You must complete a 3-quarter Clinical Residency for teacher certification in Louisiana. If you plan to do a Clinical Residency in the 2022-2023 school year: (1) Apply for the 2022-2023 TEAM Model Clinical Residency Program by November 15, 2021. Test Retake Policy: If you do not receive a passing score, you may retake a Praxis test once every 35 days, not including your initial test date. For example, if you take a test on the 1st of the month, you cannot take it again until the 5th day of the following month, assuming 31 days in a month.
